Benefits of Veganism

mockup for veganism project.jpg

This concept eLearning module introduces people to the various benefits of veganism and the science behind the benefits.

Audience: Adults who are conscious about their health and the environment.

Responsibilities: Instructional Design, Visual Design, eLearning Development

Tools Used: Articulate Storyline, Vyond, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe XD, Talent LMS

Overview

I developed this eLearning concept module for two primary reasons:

1. I wanted to create a learning experience using advanced Articulate Storyline                      programming techniques.

2. My values align with veganism and I wanted to share information about the                        benefits with others.

Process

Objectives and Assessment

I designed and developed this eLearning course using the backward design model. I created the learning goal and objectives first, then developed the assessment items.

Storyboard

Next, I developed the storyboard in Google Slides which included the wireframes and content. I followed Gagne's Nine Events as a sequence for instruction based on the information processing theory.

Visual Mockup

I created the visual design mockup of the course in Adobe XD to achieve the look and feel of the course before developing in Storyline. This enabled me to iterate quickly on existing layouts and see the continuity from a bird's eye view. I initially edited images using Adobe Illustrator but was not achieving the consistent and whimsical feeling I was trying to accomplish.

I then used Vyond where I was easily able to develop the visual design style I was trying to achieve. I integrated the background as a video in the course behind the content to engage and delight the learner.

Interactive Prototype

All of the slides with the exception of the tab interaction followed the below layout with a Vyond background that was either static or a looping video, with the content that animated in and then out once the user clicked continue. This allowed me to create the basic layout and then iterate on each of the slides using the copy, paste, replace method.

Full Development

This eLearning module includes advanced Storyline programming using variables and conditions to lock the assessment until the learner has visited each of the slides and slide layers that contain additional content. This was a feature of Storyline that I challenged myself to apply in this course and I am very proud of the results.

Once the course was completed, I uploaded it to Talent LMS and assigned it to three users. I was able to see that all three learners took the course but only 2 passed. This provides me with the information on how the team is progressing in the course.

Takeaways

I had fun creating this project. I enjoyed developing the visual design, and applying variables and triggers to the custom menu. I also learned about stacking triggers in order that they fire. One that may not work would need to be moved to fire first. I ran into this issue when trying to loop the video background while also pausing the timeline after the content animated in. This project was a great opportunity to apply programming features that were new to me so I can add them to my toolbox of development options for future projects.
